Justice for Windrush Generations

Jamaican born Gilbert Watkins from Corwen, a veteran of the Armed Services, proudly carried the Windrush banner at the start of the service, escorted by North Wales Jamaica Society Chair, Garrick Prayogg, who read from the scriptures and also spoke to the importance justice for the Windrush Generations, explaining that a wider knowledge of the British Government's current compensation scheme for those British Citizens living all across the UK, who came from around the world to rebuild British cities in the years after the Second World War. Many people lost their jobs, homes and access to the Health Service, or were even wrongly deported to countries where they no longer had connections. This happened during the years when the Conservative Government created a hostile environment, requiring employers, Health Service staff and landlords to take responsibility for checking the status of workers, patients and tenants. 

 

 

The Bangor Blue Watch team were at the Windrush event at Bangor Cathedral on Sun 22nd June. with one of the fire engines ready to go over to support the fire service in Clarendon, Jamaica - the area where the Pennant family had plantations that generated the wealth used to build Penrhyn Castle.
