Establishing the Jamaica Wales Alliance
The concept of the Jamaica Welsh Alliance was created when a small delegation from Wales, including members of the North Wales Jamaica Society, was invited to Jamaica by Jamaican poet, Yasus Afari, in September 2016 to explore the creation of sustainable links between the two countries.
Meetings with the Jamaican Commission for Cultural Development and the Institute of Jamaica got the delegation's programme off to a flying start and the week of visits, poetry events and consultation ended in a Reception hosted at the British High Commission in Kingston.

However despite the best efforts of all concerned, and more recently Covid, things have been slow, but the links have been maintained.
With the support of the Jamaican High Commission in UK, the JWA Working Group was established, with retired businessman Coy Roache as Chair, with Vivian Crawford, the Executive Director, as members of the Secretariat.
The North Wales Jamaica Society is working with our sister organisation 'Learning Links International' in developing the potential of the Jamaica Wales Alliance, along with other organisations including the Institute of Jamaica and the new South Wales Jamaica Society.
